Party plan and the key to your next event

A Party plan is a good idea when you decided to have a party which is common practice today when we ask friends to have a meal with us to choose the buffet service, whether the meal is served on the terrace, on the lawn around the grill or barbecue, or in the house. Maybe this event is centered on event such as a wedding or birthday maybe a holiday. We entertain in the afternoon, we may ask our guests to drop in for cocktails or for tea or wine maybe sherry.

Sometimes, we elaborate the usual cocktail party and serve, buffet style, a hot dish or two as well as the usual appetizers. Another simple method of entertaining that is increasingly popular is to ask guests to come in for dessert and coffee or wine before an afternoon or evening of bridge, canasta or other board game even an evening of television and movies. Having a party is one of the best ways to get together with friends and family and share sometime and fun together. Although it can be great and a lot of fun and rewarding there is some key planning that you should consider before you hosting this event at your home or other place and party plan is must. Planning ahead is the key to success and a party plan is important after all I know you would not want to be embarrassed by running out of food or other things like plates and glasses.

Here are some things you should consider when you do a party plan.

*The Type of Party – This can be any type of event however the food will vary depending on what that event is after all you might not want to server hamburgers at a wedding party. Different types of parties with most likely have a different party plan.

* The Date of the event- This will give you the time horizon that you plan on have the party the time of year summer, fall, winter or spring and if it falls on a holiday. This way if you decide to have it outside during spring you can plan for that and hopefully have an area that people can go to incase of rain a good party plan will have a place to move your guest to if this happens.

* The Guest names and number you expect – My rule for this is always plan for more then you expect because some people might bring someone extra but be careful when you do this because if you plan for 30 people to show up but want to make your you have extra just incase so you setup for 50 people you could have lots of leftovers. I use what I call the 10 to 15% rule for example if I expect 30 people I have enough food for 33 to 35 people. Of course the worst thing that can happen is you expect 30 people and only 25 shows up. More formal parties and elaborate meals you can ask your guess to RSVP to invites that you send them which can help keep you within your budget. You can even give them a menu to choice from on what they would like give them at least a few choices of meals.

* The Menu – This pretty much will let you guess know what is going to be severed so there are no surprises. A good menu will give your guess more then one choice of meal I personally like to have a minimum of 3 items to chose from usually a Meat , fish and chicken dish of course you have can add many more choices but that should be the basics also with the meal a choice of soup or salad and bread. Also if you might want to list what wines will be offered as well and let your guest choice from the wine selection. Of course you could also make suggestion such as the Red wine with Meat or Riesling wine with the Chicken but you want to give them the option to choose since everyone has different taste.

* Recipes, the size and source – If your catered the event then they should be able to show you this also you should be able to pre-sample the food before you server to your guest. You want to do this if you can because again if this is an important event you really want to put your best foot forward. Nothing worst then having the Chief you hired screw up the meal and serve something that you have not approved or change the menu. If you plan on cooking the meal yourself check the recipe for the serving size because if you have more people you most likely will have to a just to the size of the number of party guest. Make sure to get to enough of the needed ingredients nothing worst then in the middle of making a dish and realized you’re missing a key ingredient.

* Cost and market order – You should be on a budget for your party and the things you need for it. You want to look at the over all cost of the items you need for the party. Once you have a list of all the things you need Food, wine, dishware, rental of hall or build and possibly chair and etc. This will give an idea of the total expense involve for the event the party plan should have some kind of budget. Of course you should reserve if possible the hall or building your need along with the chairs if that is a separate cost. The other thing you might have to do is pre-order you items from the market. The larger the event the more likely the store may not have enough of some items. Of course of you are going through a service then they should do some of these things for you but make sure of what the service will and won’t do for the party.

Hopeful this gives you an overview of what kind things to keep in mind when you create a party plan.
